Genio Creativo

Montegrappa Tributo ad Amedeo Modigliani

Buy Montegrappa limited Edition Edition Tributo ad Amedeo Modigliani pens

When a work of art or an idea forever changes the way we see the world, we call it genius.

Each year the Genio Creativo collection celebrates an historical figure who has led to a new way of experiencing the world. The second limited edition celebrates the unique and precious talent of another great Italian: Amedeo Modigliani, the artist whose famous portraits revealed the true essence of the soul.

Although he moved to Paris in 1906 to pursue his artistic career, Modi -  a nickname that sounds like the French word maudit which means damned - always remained an impulsive and generous Tuscan. Tradition has fueled the legend of this nonconformist, dissolute artist, but his artistic fervor mainly reveals a man inclined towards poetry and passion, who lived and loved life to the fullest.

His portraits are undoubtedly his signature works: in these unique paintings, his profound psychological study of the subject is expressed through twisted, tormented lines and radiant, vibrant strokes of the brush.

modigliani's portraits inspired Montegrappa's design of its limited edition: the barrel and cap are oval like his subjects' faces, the clip is long and asymmetrical like their noses, and the cap ring has the typical irregular shape of his models' lips. The 18K gold nib is engraved with one of modigliani's famous head studies. Precious resin,in the same deep blue found in many of his works, is used to suggest Modigliani's artistic "signature": a string, vibrant brush stroke that characterized each painting.

A distinctive sign of the Genio Creativo collectionis the solitary gem, a symbol of unique genius: a blue topaz for the resin version and a diamond for the pink gold version.

Invito a La Traviata

Emozioni in MusicaMontegrappa Invito a La Traviata
Buy Montegrappa limited Edition Edition Invito a La Traviata pens

Sentiments and passions pervade the thrilling musical genre of opera. Montegrappa pays homage to this unique art form born in Italy through the Emozioni in Musica limited collection of writing instruments. Each edition is an invitation to celebrate an opera that has moved and touched the hearts of audiences around the glode. “la Traviata” is the world’s most famous and most frequent performed opera; the character of Violetta Valery, the “lady of the Camellias” skilfully crafted by Guiseppe Verdi, has seduced audiences since the opera first made its debut un 1863. Element s of Violetta’s tempestuous and tormented personality emerged in each detail of the Montegrappa collection. The cap top has an engraved camellia, the flower that Violetta always wore on her bodice. The barrel is decorated with a camellia created with a refined low-relief engraved technique. A cameo that frames Violetta’s portrait is created on the barrel with the burin engraved technique on the silver version and with an ancient hot enamelling technique in the The die-cast clip evokes the typical ornamental elements of the eighteenth century. Fine celluloid details are in red, the colours that has always symbolized passion, and the 18K gold nib is engraved with the initial of Violetta Valery. Inito a La Traviata is available in 1912 sterling silver fountain pens, in celebration of the year that Montegrappa was founded. Meanwhile, 1637, the year of the first public performance of an opera, inspired the number of the most precious and exclusive versions: 37 yellow gold fountain pens and 16 yellow gold fountain pens with 34 diamonds (for a total of 2.25 carats) on the cap.

Paulo Coelho

Montegrappa Paulo Coelho

Buy Montegrappa limited Edition Paulo Coelho pens

An artist of the written word and a master at evoking emotions such as Paulo Coelho could not help but be impressed by Montegrappa, which has always been an instrument and expression of the passion for writing.

This partnership has led to the creation of Paulo Coelho Limited Edition, a writing that speaks of the author with every detail. The limited edition is made using the fret-working technique that accentuated the refined contrast between the lustrous precious metal and the black mother-of-pearl resin. The barrel was inspired by a fundamental experience in the author’s life: the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela that Coelho described in his book “The Pilgrimage” (1987). The route taken by the author is highlighted by two shining emeralds and traced by precious black lacquer on the silver version and by diamonds on the gold version.

The cap is engraved with Paulo Coelho’s signature in black lacquer and the Montegrappa logo. A compass engraved on the cap top evokes the artistic symbolism of the author.

The lines of the clip resemble a sword, which is the object of Coelho’s search in “the Pilgrimage”, while the 18K gold nib is engraved with a butterfly, another symbol dear to the author’s heart. Even the numbering of the limited edition pays homage to Paulo Coelho. It is composed of 1,947 pieces, in honour of the author’s year of birth: 1,00 fountain pens and 900 rollerball pens in sterling silver and emeralds, and 47 fountain pens in 18K yellow gold, emeralds and diamonds. Each pen is accompanied by a booklet that contains a few of the author’s thoughts on writing: “The hand, the pen, phrase”, which Paulo Coelho dedicates to his limited edition.

Tributo ad Antonio Stradivari

When a work of art or an idea forever changes the way we see the world, we call it genius. Each year the Genio Creativo collection celebrates an individual from history who has led to a new way of experiencing the world: a creative genius. The limited edition of the collection is dedicated to Antonio Stradivari, the world’s greatest violin-maker. Born in 1644 in Born in 1644 in Cremona, Italy, throughout his life he created more than 1,100 instruments. Although technology has progressed with amazing speed over he centuries, no one has ever succeeded in matching their perfection.

Many legends and theories have been formed over the years to seek to understand how his instruments could produce such a perfect sound, Niccolo Paganini claimed that “Stradivari used only wood from trees in which nightingales sang”.

Apparently, the secret of the Stradivarius perfection lies in the wood, the red fir tree from Italy’s Val di Fiemme, used by him to make his instruments. Therefore, to celebrate Antonio Stradivari and his perfect violins, Montegrappa chose a precious resin for this limited edition that reproduces the colours and veining of the wood. The soft line of the pen is also reminiscent of the tapered lines of the violin and the decoration of the clip is inspired by its four strings. The nib of the fountain pen, in 18K gold, is finely engraved with the image of a violin and the initials AS, the same way Antonio Stradivari used to sign his creations. Finally, the cap top is decorated with topaz to symbolise the uniqueness of creative genius.

Antonio Stradivari (better know as Stradivarius), the world's greatest volin maker, was born in 1644 in Cremona, Italy. Throughout his life he created more than 1100 musical instruments which are now prized by collectors all over the world.

Montegrappa is honored to dedicate tthe first of its Genio Creativo writing instruments to its Italian compatriot, Antonio Stradivari. The resin used for the pen reproduces the colour and veined texture of the wood responsible for the unparalleled sound of these violins. The fountain pen version has an 18K white gold nib with decorations in yellow gold that include the shape of a violin and the initials - A.S. - the mark applied by Antonio Stradivari to most of his instruments.
