The Age of the Pirate
Immortalised by writers including Robert Louis Stevenson and Rafael Sabatini, in films including The Buccaneer and the hugely successful Pirates of the Caribbean series, and emulated by any child with a toy sword and an eye-patch, the pirate is one of villainy’s most appealing characters. Montegrappa, in collaboration with designer, Vincenzo Luly, presents the Tiziano writing instruments collection inspired by the artist’s illustrious painting “Vanitas” (1512-1515). Ensuring that devotees of Tiziano and art lovers in general will be enthralled by the Genio Creativo Tiziano Pens, the barrels, with the artistic interpretations of the subjects, are hand-painted by miniaturist par-excellence Straffi Lorena. The cap top is further enriched with the original Tiziano wax seal. The latter is also virtuously reproduced onto the barrel end of the magnifying glass that complements the fountain pen.Offered in a limited edition of 100 items for each model, the Tiziano fountain and rollerball pens are both distinctive and evocative of the artist’s era, in that the barrel end and cap are made of precious beech wood. The natural material was indeed retrieved from the secular beech tree, also known as “the Tiziano beech” that grew in the premises of his home in Pieve di Cadore. In 2012, this monumental timber-plant was incidentally ripped by a windstorm, thus disconnecting eventually the historical liaison between the painter and his homelands. Nowadays, this symbolic spell revives through other forms of art, such as the given exclusive selection of writing instruments bearing his name.
Enhancing further the organic presence of the beech are the Renaissance Red resin and vermeil Sterling Silver fittings of the Tiziano pens trim. Montegrappa Khalil Gibran Fountain Pen

Montegrappa has collaborated closely with the Gibran National Committee, and renowned
Lebanese artist Katja Traboulsy in the creation of this homage to Gibran’s legacy. The GNC was established in Bsharreh, to protect and continue his legacy after his death, and Montegrappa is supporting the Gibran legacy through this project with a donation to the GNC for each pen sold.
The pens are made of resin in a colour reminiscent of the blue, black and grey prominent in Gibran’s paintings. This rich, dark hue is accented with palladium plated trim, while the fountain pen nib is two tone 18K solid gold and bears the famous face believed by many to be Gibran’s ultimate self-portrait.
All pens feature a pocket clip in the form of a hand with a solitary Sapphire set as the eye on the open palm, named the Divine World by Gibran himself. The face adorning the nib and the palm moulded into the clip are the most recognised visual references of Gibran’s art [images inset or on opposite page]. The base of the cap is inscribed with the writer’s signature, and the top of the cap bears the emblem of a ‘K’ overlaid on a ‘G’, a symbol found in the corner of many of Gibran’s paintings, his own personal logo.
In honour of the year of the birth of this legendary writer, the Khalil Gibran limited edition consists of
1883 examples each of fountain pens, roller balls and ball point pens. Each series of pens will be numbered 1/1883 to 1883/1883.

Montegrappa’s Year of the Goat 2015 will be produced as fountain pen and rollerball pen, with a green pearlised resin barrel and cap. The barrel’s centre section is made of engraved sterling silver or 18k yellow gold, engraved with the five elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. In between the elements are the years during the past century that correspond to the Year of the Goat in that specific element. The cap is dominated by a pocket clip in the form of a proud goat’s head, with its eyes highlighted by green gemstones.

The Montegrappa writing instruments collection named after the author is divided into four exclusive editions: “The Soldier”, “The Writer”, “The Fisherman” and “The Traveler”
Each of these four retells a particular life period or passion of his and is embodied in a pen, offered in the three types – fountain, roller and ballpoint pen. Each model in the four topics is a limited edition of 100 examples, totaling 300 pens for each subject. All pens in the series are produced in celluloid with Sterling Silver trim. Only 10 examples of each of the three pen types are trimmed with 18k Gold.
Of particular significance in the history of Montegrappa is Hemingway having spent time during World War I in Bassano del Grappa at Villa Cà Erizzo, next to the pen manufactory. One of his greatest works, A Farewell to Arms (1929), was inspired by his relationship with a nurse during his time in Veneto and many of the descriptions of the area draw inspiration from the views of Bassano, and so is The Soldier pen.
