Surface Cleaning
To remove stains or finger prints, wipe the parts of the pen in resin or celluloid with a soft damp cloth. Do not use solvents or chemical products that may damage the surfaces and materials of the pen. On no account must alcohol be used on the surfaces in celluloid.

Fountain Pen

  • PISTON FILLING
    • Twist the end cap anticlockwise until it stops.
    • Dip the entire nib into the ink bottle.
    • Draw the ink into the pen, twisting the end cap clockwise until it stops.
    • Twist the end cap half a turn anticlockwise, letting a little ink drip out to release air.
    • Clean the nib with a damp, lint-free cloth.
  • PISTON CONVERTER
    • Unscrew the pen section.
    • If the converter is missing, insert it in the section entrance, screwing it tight if it is threaded.
    • If the converter is already inserted, go to point 4.
    • Twist the end of the converter anticlockwise until it stops.
    • Dip the entire nib into the ink bottle.
    • Draw the ink into the reservoir, twisting the end of the converter clockwise.
    • Twist the filling knob half a turn anticlockwise, letting a little ink drip out to release air.
    • Screw the pen section back into the barrel.
    • Wipe the nib clean with a damp, lint-free cloth.
  • CARTRIDGE
    • Unscrew the pen section.
    • Insert the cartridge until it stops in order to puncture the protection seal.
    • Wait for ink to come out of the nib (this should take about 60 seconds).
    • Screw the section back into the barrel.

      Important Tips:

  • Wash the nib regularly under lukewarm running water, without using any other product. Washing is necessary in cases where the flow of ink is intermittent or has stopped, where the feed system is blocked, if the ink has dried or if the color of the ink is to be changed. To clean piston driven pens, fill and empty the reservoir several times until the water runs clear.
  • To prevent the pen from leaking, keep it filled and carry it with the nib turned upwards.
  • For optimal function of the models with ebonite feeders, fill and empty the feed system with ink twice before using the pen for the first time and subsequently every time after washing.
  • Replacing the nib: Should the width of the nib not be the most suitable for your style, the Montegrappa service agents will be pleased to replace the original nib free of charge if it is returned as new within six weeks from the purchase from a Montegrappa authorized dealer.
  • To ensure perfect and smooth writing, you are advised to use Montegrappa ink only
Rollerball
    • Unscrew the pen barrel anticlockwise.
    • Take out the old refill and insert the new one.
    • Screw the pen back together.

    Ballpoint
The tip projects and withdraws automatically by twisting the cap of the pen. How to change a refill:

    • Take the cap off by twisting it anticlockwise.
    • Take out the empty refill and replace it with a new one.
    • Screw the cap back on the barrel by twisting it clockwise.

    Mechanical Pencil
To remove the lead, twist the cap clockwise in short turns. To insert the lead, turn the cap slightly clockwise and hold it in this position. Press down lightly on the lead so that it withdraws completely. To insert new leads:

    • Take the cap off the mechanical pencil by turning it anticlockwise.
    • Take out the pencil mechanism and remove the black cap from its end.
    • Insert the correct size leads in the reservoir.
    • Replace the black cap and reinsert the pencil mechanism in its proper position.
    • Screw the cap back onto the barrel by twisting it clockwise.
